This is the latest book from respected author Louis Samuels, whose first book 'England's Last Hope' established his reputation as a writer of some standing, his wide-ranging and humourous recollections of National Service evoking for many who underwent the same experience both positive and negative memories of their National Service days. His second very successful book, 'Zelda Stories', or 'Tails of the Dog' published in 2004, was aimed at young children, 44 comical short stories recalling the adventures of a black family dog. The author's latest venture has been to write about his life and times in his 'beloved' home city of Leeds, where he was born in 1937. Leeds today is a city of regional, national and international importance and with its diverse economy, enterprising people and cosmopolitan atmosphere, Leeds looks set to be a success story well into the future. However, this has not always been the case, the City of Leeds experiencing various vicissitudes over the years. Born in Leeds in 1937, the author writes sympathetically and honestly about his experiences as a boy and a man in the city of his birth, charting the rise and fall of the fortunes of this gritty city, whose foundations were laid during the time of the Industrial Revolution. In his latest book, the author vividly describes his personal experiences in and around Leeds mainly during the years 1937 and 1968. The book was written almost entirely from memory and in between his recollections of the City of Leeds and the surrounding area, the author has interspersed related anecdotes, which he hopes will give readers a 'right good' laugh! Louis Samuels was educated at Roundhay Boys' Grammar School in Leeds, later gaining a B.A., before moving to York, Knaresborough in North Yorkshire and finally Manchester. His speciality since 1973, has been the study and practice of all aspects of handwriting - Graphology - and he is able to read an individual's whole personality, sum up career choices and gauge social skills, from a careful study, often taking several hours, of a sample of handwriting and a signature. In between his work, he has recently written down his very personal memories of what it was to live in the environons of Leeds during the period 1937-1968. His dearest wish is that his grandchildren and all those people with an interest in local history will enjoy reading these memories of his home city - Leeds. |
